More people can experience Arne Jacobsen’s extraordinary legacy if his National Bank Building were adaptively reused as the prestigious Danish National Museum.
It is proposed that the landmark 6-story National Bank office building and 400-hundred-year-old Holmens Kirke be weaved together as part of an intricate pedestrian-oriented civic plan.
In addition to occupying the entire taller 6-story office building, the design proposes replacing the low windowless 1-story section along Havnegade with a new museum entry, atrium, restaurants and galleries arranged around a re-creation of Holmens Kanal that existed on the site.
Most prestigious new museums in the world are the result of additions and successive remodeling.
