San Pedro Square Market

San Jose, California

San Pedro Square Market Hall opened in 2011 as San Jose’s first public market to be built in over a hundred years. The project includes the adaptive reuse of two buildings and the new construction of a third. Extensive outdoor seating areas surround the Peralta Adobe, which was built in 1797 and is the oldest building in northern California.

The project won the AIA Santa Clara Valley Chapter Design Merit Award, 2012. It was also the winner of the San Jose Business Journal’s Community Impact Award. The project is the result of a public/private partnership who developed the project as a catalyst for the surrounding high-density urban neighborhood.

The Market Hall establishes a dynamic, ever-changing focal point and provides alternative products and services not found in chain stores.

The project is adjacent to the farmer’s market and takes advantage of an underutilized parking structure across the street.
